iGEM Conversations in Synthetic Biology

Hosted by Washington iGEM, this annual speaker event introduces students to the growing field of synthetic biology, an interdisciplinary field that uses biology to solve real world problems in medicine, technology, and the environment. Professors and graduate students will share their experiences in synthetic biology, giving students insight into what research looks like and what opportunities are available at UW for undergraduates to get involved. Students will leave with a better understanding of potential career pathways and practical ways to take their first steps into research.

Because synthetic biology can feel unfamiliar or intimidating, the event is designed to make the field approachable and accessible to students from all backgrounds. Students will be given a chance to have conversations with expert researchers and connect with other students interested in science.
