SUMMARY:Tech Policy Lab Tech Policy Discussion
DESCRIPTION:The Tech Policy Lab is a unique\, interdisciplinary collaboration at the University of Washington that aims to enhance technology policy through research\, education\, and thought leadership. Founded in 2013 by faculty from the University’s Paul G. Allen School of Computer Science & Engineering\, Information School\, and School of Law\, the Lab aims to bridge the gap between technologists and policymakers and to help generate wiser\, more inclusive tech policy. \nDuring the academic year\, the TPL hosts weekly Tech Policy Discussions open to all students. At our Discussions\, we discuss current events in tech policy. We treat tech policy quite broadly\, so discussion topics could range from social media companies to space law to European legislation regarding privacy. Our Discussions often include undergraduates from a variety of majors\, as well as PhD students studying Computer Science and Informatics\, as well as Law Students. These Discussions take place every Thursday at 12:30 PM in the Tech Policy Lab\, which is located in William H. Gates Hall (School of Law)\, Room 222. \nThe Tech Policy Discussion on September 24th is a unique opportunity for incoming students to learn about the Tech Policy Lab as well as our weekly Tech Policy Discussions.

SUMMARY:Sports Analytics Club: Who’s the GOAT?
DESCRIPTION:Join the Sports Analytics Club for an event where we’ll use data to tackle one of football’s biggest debates: who is the GOAT? This beginner-friendly event is a fun introduction to sports analytics\, using real football data to explore how stats can shape the way we compare legendary players across eras. \nWe’ll start by introducing the basics of sports analytics: what it is\, why it matters\, and how data is used to answer questions in sports. Then we’ll walk through a simple hands-on workflow: exploring football stats\, cleaning a dataset\, and building a few easy visualizations to compare players. Along the way\, we’ll look at how metrics and graphs can support (or challenge) classic GOAT arguments in football. \nNo prior experience with coding or analytics is needed. Whether you’re a sports fan\, curious about data\, or just interested in seeing how numbers can fuel one of sports’ most iconic debates\, this is a great way to get introduced to sports analytics with the club.
