SUMMARY:Women in Aerospace Speed Networking hosted by SARP
DESCRIPTION:SARP is hosting a Women in Aerospace Speed Networking event during Dawg Daze to introduce incoming UW students to women pursuing careers in engineering\, aerospace\, and related STEM fields. The event brings together 10 women from a variety of backgrounds\, including current UW students\, alumni\, and women working in the aerospace industry\, to share their experiences and advice. \nStudents will participate in a speed-networking format\, rotating between small groups or individual conversations with the mentors. Each conversation would provide an opportunity to ask questions about college\, engineering careers\, internships\, the aerospace industry\, and navigating traditionally male-dominated fields. The informal format would make it easy for students to meet multiple mentors and hear a range of perspectives in a short period of time. \nOur goal is to create an approachable and inspiring environment where incoming students can build connections\, learn about opportunities in aerospace\, and see the variety of paths available to them. By connecting students with women who have already pursued these paths\, we hope to help students feel more confident about their place in engineering and encourage them to explore opportunities within aerospace and STEM.

SUMMARY:ASME Presents: Bracelets and Backyard Activities
DESCRIPTION:The University of Washington chapter of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) will host a community-building event at Sylvan Grove for incoming first-year students. The event will feature a variety of casual activities\, including bracelet making\, Spikeball\, volleyball\, cornhole\, and frisbee. ASME will provide all bracelet-making materials\, including beads and string\, as well as equipment for the outdoor games. \nThe primary goal of this event is to help incoming students connect with one another before the academic year begins by providing a relaxed\, welcoming environment where they can meet new people and build friendships. While the event will primarily be advertised to incoming STEM students\, particularly those interested in engineering\, it will be open to all incoming first-year students. \nIn addition to the recreational activities\, ASME student representatives will be available throughout the event to answer questions about college life\, share their experiences as engineering students\, and offer advice to help ease the transition to the University of Washington. This event is intended to foster a sense of community while introducing new students to ASME and the opportunities the organization provides.

DESCRIPTION:Join Swing Kids at UW for an hour-long introduction to the Lindy Hop! All skill levels are welcome\, regardless of prior dance experience. And if you have fun\, you can join us at our Reverie Ballroom outing on Sept. 27! \nSwing Kids at UW are a group of college students dedicated to learning Lindy Hop swing. SUMMARY:Raytracing and Physics in Space w/ Husky Satellite Lab
DESCRIPTION:The Husky Satellite Lab’s science team (HSL Projects) is looking for creative talent to design new algorithms to test in space (with UW’s very own satellite) and write papers about! \nLearn how to create your own raytracing algorithm to simulate light physics in Earth’s atmosphere\, then compete in teams to see close you can get to (or whether you can beat…?) UW’s model. Also\, hang out with part of the science team and learn about what we do or pitch your ideas to us. Our main fields of interests are raytracing\, atmospheric rendering\, optimization\, computer vision\, optical navigation\, star tracking\, and orbit simulation\, but the team would love to invest resources in any interesting and novel algorithms you might want to explore using a camera in space. \nIf you’re interested in a career in academia\, this is the perfect place to train skills in mathematical and algorithmic creativity and practice writing papers. \nAnyone looking for a job in aerospace or engineering can find many connections and opportunities through HSL.
